Delphine Dora & Half Asleep. You're not mad, you're just lonely (We Are Unique Records – 2012)You’re not mad, you’re just lonely is a full-length recording from the duo Delphine Dora & Half Asleep. Together, the French and Belgian musicians crafted an album of startling pop songs, with classical, experimental and contemporary influences, taking an obvious pleasure in their collaboration while seeking to push forward the boundaries of their respective universes.uring the session, they invoked the literary spectres of playwright Sarah Kane, writer Janet Frame, famous wife and letter-writer Zelda Fitzgerald, or of Beckett’s fictional character Molloy... he result is a spontaneous and somewhat heterogeneous collection of songs centred on the piano and vocal, and that will take the listener to a variety of enchanted, amusing or terrifying places. see : We Are Unique Records |

» (The beauty of sadness) |

Dora'li, Saeglin' (2008)Delphine Dora : piano, vocals, percussions, objects, vibraphone « Dora'li have succeeded in creating an entirely new music here and I have no idea how to classify it...nor do I care to do so. There's the tension and release, a bit of sturm und drang and a shitload of good-natured fun free play. It gets better as it progresses and ultimately comes across as one big suite rather than a collection of 18 individual works. Regardless of how you assess it, this is an absolutely great recording. This is the sort of thing I've always wanted to hear but never knew existed. Bully for me...can't wait to hear more. A+ » (Heathen Harvest) |

Dora'li, Unreleased tracks (2007) Delphine Dora : piano, vocals, percussions, objects, vibraphone Dorali is the musical collaboration between delphine dora and 'li. It's an improvisation project which consists mainly on our two voices together, and our 4 hands playing the piano. Sometimes, delphine plays the piano, while 'li sings. Sometimes, it's the contrary. SÆIEGLÎ:N , our first record, is the result of three afternoon of improvisations (between february and april 2007). Vocalizations between whispers and shout, wordless and imaginary langage, avant-garde piano playing and ethnic primitive sounds: it's almost what you can hear in this adventurous and free record which explore the different sides of voice and musical exploration. |

Delphine Dora and the Unexpected, We're all of this (2007)Trio composed by Delphine Dora, Half Asleep and Jullian Angel In autarky and complete isolation for three days of improvisation, they declined a patchwork of heterogeneous and nevertheless complementary atmospheres that will call to mind Max Richter, Charalambides or Animal Collective. Composed and interpreted in a brilliant urgency, the 22 songs of " We're all of this " are as an ode to spontaneity. CD-R to buy on Bandcamp |

Delphine Dora, Blablabla (2006)Delphine Dora : piano, vocals « As we listen on, one can almost hear echoes of old forgotten tunes. Yet, the music remains particularly elusive. This is also reflected in Delphine's piano playing and singing which often oscillate between pure wordless vocalizations and a series of ambiguous mumbles that sound like they belong to an existing language. Below the surface, there are these ghostlike melodies which now seem to rejoice to have finally been given a voice .. even if that cannot be really put into words... "blablabla". For the listener, this also means that it may be difficult .. at times .. to isolate a specific emotional colour, but it is exactly what makes this record so very special. People who are into the music of Josephine Foster, Islaja or Mary Margaret O'Hara should definitely check this one out. Simply beautiful.. » CD-r available on abaton book company |

» (Amadeo/In_Tension) |

Born in 1980, Delphine Dora is a pianist, improviser, singer, and songwriter from France. She did many solo or collaboration recordings in the past and now, released on micro independent labels or available by free download by Archive.org or Free Music Archive, of weird, unclassifiable or intimate music more or less structured ; a voice alternating and ranging of the spectrum from screams to whispers... If her musical curiosity without limits led her to collaborate with artists from different musical spheres : songwriting/folk music (Jullian Angel, Half asleep) noise music/post-rock (Li), experimental-weird-folk (Salvatore Borelli), free jazz and improvised music (Paulo Chagas, Dupla Bruno), her music is still based around the piano, her instrument of choice. Her solo piano and collaborations projects, from piano vignettes in the classical form to avant-garde and free improvisations, using both outside and inside piano, show her unfinished taste for new territories... Recent projects include an adaptation of Walt Whitman «leaves of grass», a trio instrumental and improvised album (piano/double bass/clarinet), a conceptual and collaboration album based on the theme of alienation inspired by real or fictional characters (Molloy, Sarah Kane, Zelda Fitzgerald...).

Half Asleep is the project of Valerie Leclerc from Brussels. Minimal in the instrumentations (piano, guitar, sometimes drums) and very slow, Half asleep’s music can be a mixture of sadcore, dream pop and folk sounds. Valerie’s first records reminds the music of Low, Tara Jane o’Neil, Julie Doiron’s music. In her two last records, the music is more accomplished and mature. Intimate and sometimes spiritual in its quietest moments, Half Asleep has been compared to the music of Patty Waters, Nina Simone, Nico. She’s well know thanks her records on Matamore (Some Tweetlove, Raymondo, Soy Un Caballo, Sepia Hours,…) and now Humpty Dumpty Records (Miele, Tazio & Boy) and We Are Unique Records (Angil, Raymonde Howarde, Lunt). She had played in the Matt Elliott’s band and she had collaborated with french artists such as Angil, Jullian Angel, Colleen...

For him, composing, playing, improvising music is like imagining, creating and sometimes decomposing new spaces, new entities. His new works, mostly based on phonographies, perfectly reflects that.

Jullian Angel is a songwriter from north of France, he was first revealed to the French indie scene by a small label, Another Record, with his debut album Melancholic Ecstasy (2004). In a lo-fi electro-pop kind, it still covered the folk-writing predominant side of this soloist performer. Therefore, Jullian’s second issued record Life was the answer (2007) was mainly based on acoustic guitar tracks, richly arranged sometimes, though his vocals and words kept a leading role anyway. Especially over several timeless ballads, somewhere between Radiohead, Nick Drake, or Leonard Cohen, as described by different music reviewers. A new studio album, Kamikaze planning holidays, was then released in February 2011 (Escape Fantasy - Les Disques Normal - Believe), featuring the belgian artist Half asleep, and mastered by Bruno Green. It brings out the music’s flesh & bones, as well as an autobiographic urgency in the lyrics.

« Salvatore Borrelli is the man behind post digital/textural outfit ( etre ). His work as Harps of Fuchsia Kalmia is long-needed break from this music, and a foray into other influences, mentors, and the concept of naturalism. Combining acoustic guitar, flutes, and a wealth of other hand-crafted country-specific instruments, Borelli infuses all of his influences into a sprawling folk-tinged 50 minute improvisation (all of the guitars being recorded in one night during a volcanic eruption near Borrelli’s home). (…) Harps of Fuchsia Kalmia is an artist among the handful of Italian weird-folk artists such as Selaxon Lutberg, Donato Epiro, Architeuthis Rex, Valerio Cosi, and We Wait for the Snow that are often associated with the Italian label, Centre of Wood. Each artist, however, ought not to be lost in the lumping together of their common association. Harps of Fuchsia Kalmia is no exception. This project, which is the brainchild of Salvatore Borrelli ( e t r e ), unquestionably stands out, making its own autonomous mark on the experimental folk scene. Harps comes full-blast with its own sound of avant-folk-forest tracks. It boasts a “new form of rural psychedelia.” And a new form it is indeed. I have never heard anything like this before. It is a cross between blue grass, drone, and noise (made with traditional instruments). »
